The status record test results of driving test on the Sarathi portal means your application has reached the stage where the RTO has to enter the result of your driving skill test into the system. Until the examiner or office staff enter pass or fail, the stage shows as pending. Once the result is recorded, the application moves on to licence approval and printing, or back to a retest if you did not pass. We are an independent site with no official role, so please confirm your own status on the portal.

Record test results of driving test meaning

A driving licence application on Sarathi passes through a fixed set of stages. Each stage is shown with a status such as completed or pending. The stage called record test results of driving test sits right after your skill test date. It means the system is waiting for the RTO to record how you did on the track or road test.

When the examiner marks you as passed or failed, staff enter that result, and the stage turns to completed. The next stages, such as approval and licence printing, then open up. So seeing this stage is normal. It simply tells you where your file is today.

Stage names can differ a little between states and can change when the portal is updated. Read the exact words on your own status screen.

What pending means, and how long it lasts

Record test results of driving test pending usually means the examiner has not yet entered your result. Common reasons are:

  • Results for the day are entered in a batch at the end of the day or the next working day.
  • The office has a backlog or a staff shortage.
  • There is a technical issue with the server.
  • The test was not actually taken, for example if you missed your slot.

Most people see the status move within a few working days. If it stays pending much longer, visit the RTO with your application number and ask at the licence section.

You may also see a line such as allotment information unavailable next to this stage. This often appears when the slot details are not linked on the screen, for example after a walk in test or a rescheduled date. It does not by itself mean something is wrong. If you are unsure, ask the RTO.

How to check your status

  1. Open the Sarathi portal and select your state.
  2. Choose the option for application status under the licence menu.
  3. Enter your application number and date of birth, and type the captcha.
  4. Read the list of stages and look for the one marked pending.
  5. Take a screenshot so you can show it at the RTO if needed.
Keep your application number written in a notebook as well as on your phone. You need it for every status check and for any visit to the office.

After the result: pass or fail

If you passed: the application moves to approval. After that the licence is printed. Many states post the card to the address on your application, while some ask you to collect it. You can usually view your licence details on the portal once it is approved, even before the card arrives.

If you failed: the status will show the result, and you can apply for a retest. States set a short waiting period before a retest and may charge a retest fee. Your learner's licence must still be valid on the retest date. If it has expired, you may need a new learner's licence first.

Practice the parts that went wrong. Many learners fail on reversing, parking or the gradient. A good instructor can help, and our defensive driving guide covers road habits examiners look for.

Your driving record and licence extract in India

People search for driving record or driving history record India when a job, a visa or an insurer asks for proof. In India the main record is the licence entry in the national licence database. You can usually:

  • View your licence details on the Sarathi portal using your licence number and date of birth.
  • Download or print a licence extract or details page, where the portal offers it.
  • Ask the RTO that issued your licence for a certified extract, if an employer needs a stamped copy.

The record shows your licence classes, validity and issue details. Pending e-challans are linked to your vehicle or licence and can be checked on the e-challan portal. Read our traffic ticket and e-challan guide for that part.

If any detail on your licence record is wrong, such as your name spelling or date of birth, apply for a correction through the official portal or the RTO. Do not pay agents who promise to fix it outside the system.

Points on licence: why India is different

In the US, UK and some other countries, each offence adds points to a driving licence. Too many points can lead to a ban, and drivers ask how long points stay or how to remove them. Some Gulf countries use black points in a similar way.

India does not have such a points system in practice. A clean driving record here simply means no serious offences and no suspension. Fines are paid through challans, and for serious or repeated offences the licensing authority can suspend or cancel a licence under the Motor Vehicles Act. So there are no points to check, but it still pays to drive safely and clear every challan on time.

Road rules every new driver should know

Passing the test is the start. Keep these in mind from the first day:

  • Slow down near schools when you see the red triangle School Ahead sign.
  • Stop behind the line at red, and watch for children at crossings near school traffic lights.
  • Wear a seat belt or helmet on every trip, even short ones.
  • Keep your phone away while driving.
  • Carry your licence, registration, insurance and pollution certificate, either as paper or in an official digital form.

Questions people ask

Does record test results of driving test pending mean I failed?

No. Pending only means the result has not been entered yet. It shows the same way for people who passed and people who failed. Wait a few working days and check again.

How long after the test is the result shown?

It is often shown within one to a few working days. Delays happen when offices are busy. If it stays pending for a long time, visit the RTO with your application number.

What if the stage shows completed but no licence arrives?

Check the later stages for approval and dispatch. If it was sent by post, ask at your local post office with the details. If not, ask the RTO when you can collect it.

Can I drive after passing but before the card arrives?

Once the licence is approved and shows on the portal, you can usually carry an official digital copy. Check what your state traffic police accept. Until approval, follow the learner's licence rules.

How do I check my own driving record in India?

Use the licence details option on the Sarathi portal with your licence number and date of birth. For a stamped copy, ask the RTO that issued your licence.

Are accidents shown on my licence record?

Accidents are recorded by the police and insurers. The licence record mainly shows licence classes, validity and any suspension. Insurance claims affect your insurance history, not a points total.
